Guidelines for Panel Session Chairs / Moderators

1. Please make sure that the session begins and ends on time.

2. Introduce the session. Based on the abstracts, please quickly orient the audience about the session theme and how it will run.

3. Introduce the speakers (based on the short bio given to you).

4. Request the speakers to present continuously; in other words, one after another

5. Reserve all questions for the open forum at the latter half of the session.

6. You should be able to observe the time limit as follows: a 10 minute intro by the moderator, 15 to 20 minutes presentations depending on the number of speakers and time allotment and 10 to 15 minutes or more for open forum.

7. A conference intern with put up flash cards indicating your remaining five minutes, and last two minutes which you can use to remind presenters to limit their presentations.

8. Moderate the open forum ascertaining that short and direct questions are addressed to specific speakers. It might be good to give a short summary of what has been presented so that audience members will have the time to compose their questions and muster the guts to raise their hands.

9. Keep questions from the floor and the answers from the presenters succinct. This will give more people the opportunity to ask and reply.

10. Close the session by thanking the speakers and the audience and telling participants about the next activity.

Guidelines for Paper Presenters:

1. If possible, arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the session to allow for uploading of your Powerpoint presentation and for meeting the other members of your panel.

2. Please be reminded that you will only be given 15-20 minutes to present depending on the number of presenters in your panel.  The moderator will be provided with flash cards to remind you of your remaining five minutes and last two minutes of your presentation.

3. Wear comfortable business attire that will not draw too much attention from your paper presentation.

4. You may either fully memorize or master only the main points of your paper for easy flow of your presentation. Be prepared to answer any questions from the audience.

5. Feel free to approach your moderator before the session for any issues or concerns.
